For appointments outside the M25 circle and Greater London, we have £60 pounds surcharge for the initial treatment. An inspection only, outside London, costs £100 pounds total.

About us

Our bed bug control and treatment services are available for Colchestrians 7 days a week, nearly 24 hours a day, without any surcharges for the weekends. The technicians are always ready to inspect, risk assess and treat the problem on the same visit, saving time and money. In most cases where the bed bugs have not been seen and only bites have been received, we are able to locate the source of the infestation or find traces of other insects. The combined dry steam and residual spray treatment with professional-use-only insecticide is the most efficient treatment in terms of extermination rates, cost effective as well, and it works with nearly all insects.

The process

We treat successfully all kinds of bed bug infestations and other insects for residents and landlords but also for the hospitality and transport industries in Colchester and all the surrounding towns. At Bed Bug Hunters we are fully committed to get rid of the bed bugs with less treatments and insecticides applied, following strictly the pest legislation in the UK and the best practice codes issued by the British Pest Control Association (BPCA). Our most successful bed bug treatments include heat methods in combination with the professional-use-only insecticides, which are far more efficient than any Do It Yourself (DIY) bed bug spray or smoke bomb, for example.

Please note that our bed bug treatments work perfectly well with a wide range of insects, such as carpet beetle and its larvae, cockroaches, fleas, flies and other flying insects, fabric and food moth, spiders, woodworms and furniture beetles, stored product insects (SPIs) and others.

Firstly, there are few preparations that we require our customers to do before the time of the appointment. Those include removing any storage from underneath the beds and the floor level, making sure everything is clean and stored in sealed plastic boxes or bags, or kept away from the floor in general. The beds should be stripped and the bedding washed on 60 degrees Celsius and this is applying for the sheets only, not for the pillows and duvets/blankets. The bed bugs cannot go through the fabric of those, so they cannot be hiding inside, unless the fabric is torn or there is a hole. Delicate fabrics susceptible to hot wash could inspected only and shaken through the window, for example. The final step of the preparation is a thorough vacuum cleaning of the whole floor in the property. Please make sure you seal and bin the contents of the hoover safely afterwards.

The most successful treatment is our targeted super-heated dry steam and insecticide spray type of treatment, achieving complete bed bug eradication in less than 3 treatments, on average, and in nearly all the cases. The heat is non-toxic and it works with all life stages of bed bugs instantly, exterminating eggs and newly hatched ones (bed bug nymphs). This is followed by a thorough spray of all hideouts of the bed bugs, respectively all the furniture in all rooms. Bed bugs require treatment of the whole property, due to their behaviour and the risk of spreading them. Our technicians do not charge anything extra for hallways, sitting and living areas, stairs and landings. The professional insecticide is safe in general, only 3-5 hours after the treatment, even for pets. In all the cases where there is a pregnancy after the sixth month, babies or toddlers, we apply chemical-free methods only.
